Dr Alpins has been practicing in Melbourne since 1977 and is recognised
nationally as a leading cataract and refractive surgeon.
He is a leading world authority on the treatment of myopia and
astigmatism with the excimer laser.
Dr Alpins has lectured by invitation on his surgery techniques at major
scientific meetings in Australia, USA, Canada and Europe.
He contributes to scientific journals and ophthalmic information
magazines on cataract, excimer laser, astigmatism and myopia surgery.
Recently these articles have been translated into other languages, such
as Spanish, Chinese and Japanese, for publication on the South American
and Asian continents.
He has invented new methods for treating and analysing astigmatism, and
has developed the
ASSORT
surgical planning and outcomes analysis software program that is used by
ophthalmologists in Australia and overseas.

Dr Alpins began performing refractive surgery in 1984 introducing the
technique of radial keratotomy at that time, and was one of the first
surgeons in Australia to use the Laser Vision correction techniques.
