Dr KIRA MICHALOVA
MEDICAL RETINAL SPECIALIST
Dr Kira Michalova is an ophthalmologist specializing in the medical treatment of retinal diseases, with special interest in age –related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr Michalova was a Senior Registrar at Southern Health in 2006 and attained the Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 2007. The same year, she started further training in retinal diseases and worked as the Medical Retina Fellow at the Centre for Eye Research Australia and the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.
She also has extensive international experience, having worked in the Czech Republic, the USA, and in New Zealand. In addition, she has volunteered in several developing countries in Asia and the sub-continent, as an ophthalmologist on Project Orbis, a flying eye hospital.
Dr Kira Michalova is currently a Consultant Ophthalmologist in the Medical Retina Clinic in both the Alfred Hospital and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. She also performs eye surgery in the hospitals in the Southern Health network.
Dr Michalova teaches ophthalmology registrars, medical students and optometrists. She is an investigator in international trials on new treatments for AMD and diabetic retinopathy and is involved in research in the Centre for Eye Research Australia. She is also a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists and the Oceania Retinal Association.
When not working, she can be seen playing tennis, often with her two children, or walking on the beach with her Hungarian Vizsla.
Dr Michalova consults at the Cheltenham Eye Centre every Tuesday afternoon and an additional Tuesday morning once a month.
